Where Bearfoot Soldiers Indeed Go to Die

The Revolutionary War officer Nathan Hale once said, “I only regret I have but one life to give for my country.” Such a claim could not be less appropriate, especially considering that a well-known Midwestern stadium has suddenly forgot its original purpose—to honor those who have sacrificed their lives for this great nation.

Make no mistake (by the lake), but Chicagoans are regrettably forced to exhibit a 21st Century architectural nightmare that’s been very close to their artistic, militaristic, patriotic, and recreational hearts for many decades: The longtime lakefront fixture known as Soldier Field.

The Chicago Bears will look to bounce back from a devastating loss to the Atlanta Falcons last week that dropped them down to a three-way divisional tie with Green Bay and Minnesota, making a win this week even more crucial. The Bears have suffered three late lead losses in which they have lost by three points or fewer.

NFL Grudge Match: Chicago BearsOn October 12th, the Chicago Bears achieved another milestone in professional football. Along with countless other accolades this great franchise has received in the past, there are some not-so-great moments in sports history the Chicago Bears happen to be a part of. Last Sunday was one of them: The Bears became the third team in NFL history to lose a game while leading with less than 15 seconds remaining in the game.
