Triple Play with Rajiv NathanIt looks like Monday’s day off was exactly what the Cubs needed. Coming off of playing 20 games in 20 days, it was clear the team needed a respite. Going up against the (then) 13-19 Padres to start a six straight at Wrigley was just the right recipe for some good home cookin’. Three games resulted in three wins and the Cubs now stand at 20-14; only a half game behind the division leading Cardinals. Some solid starting pitching from Rich Harden and Ted Lilly, an unlikely triple from Reed Johnson, and more power from Alfonso Soriano led to a sweep of the mini series with the Astros. Having won six of the first seven games of May, the Cubs now stand at 16-12 on the season. Triple Play covers the latest victories and looks ahead to Milwaukee:

The Cubs came off a disappointing series in Arizona where they allowed the worst offense in baseball to score seven and 10 runs, respectively, in two of the games and reeled in the Marlins of Florida, taking three of four. It looks like turning the calendar is just what the doctor ordered, with the Cubs now undefeated in three games for the month of May. Triple Play breaks down the Cubs first series victory in 15 days:
