It's been 100 years since the Chicago Cubs last hoisted a World Series trophy in the air. Now that I think about it, were there even trophies around in 1908? That really isn't the issue at hand however. The point is that seventy games into the 2008 baseball season the Chicago Cubs are the best team in baseball. Not only do the Cubs have the best record in the game (45-25), they have scored the most runs in baseball and allowed the fewest in the National League (4th fewest in all of MLB).

The hottest division in baseball without a doubt is the NL Central. This should come as no shock to baseball fans keeping a watchful eye on the MLB standings across the board. Four of the six teams have held first place in the division at one point or another (yes, even the Pirates were in first, but they quickly choked after the first game of the season). April saw a three-way shuffle between St. Louis, Milwaukee, and Chicago at the pole position. Currently, the top three (Cubs, Cards, and Astros) are in a very tight race, and the bottom three (Reds, Brewers, and Pirates) are bunched together within a half game as well.

The early threat of rain and the Cubs offense loomed over Nationals Park in the nation's Capitol this Saturday evening. In a game that had the smell of the white "W" flag waving from the very 1st inning ace Carlos Zambrano led his team to a 7-0 victory with another outing that left the bats of Nationals quiet while the Cubs at the plate provided an unrelenting amount of stress on the opposing teams pitching staff.
