In the continuation of what has been a very disappointing season for the Fighting Illini, they fell to Wisconsin 57-71 at home and lowered their abysmal conference record to 3-11 (just 11-16 overall). If it wasn’t for the cellar dwellar Northwestern Mildcats the Illini would be at the bottom. |

COLUMBUS, Ohio --- “All I need is a #1 team, and a horse shoe to upset her by.” So sayeth the Illinois faithful who watched their fighting Illini upset the #1 Ranked Ohio State Buckeyes Saturday afternoon on the road. The victory marks the 1st time Illinois has beaten a number 1 ranked team since beating Michigan State in 1956. Juice Williams etched his way into U of I history by Tossing 4 touchdown’s against the Buckeyes in the 28-21 barn burner.
Illinois had a near flawless game with no turnovers and only 1 penalty. With the loss Ohio State can kiss their national championship hopes goodbye. They still will get a Rose Bowl bid and probably finish in the top 10. However, to the OSU fans, that just wont cut it.
Rashard Mendenhall picked up 88 yards to become Illinois’ single season rushing leader with 1,402 yards. He surpassed the former Bolingbrook High School standout Antoineo Harris’ 1330 yards from 2002. J Leman led the defensive effort with 12 tackles including 2.5 for losses. |
