The Chicago Blackhawks had the opportunity to steal a game at Joe Louis Arena Sunday afternoon, but fell short giving up 3 late goals. The 5-2 final score does not tell the tale of a hard fought game though.

Hatrick KaneEmotions were high at the UC on Monday night to say the least. After Jim Cornelison’s rendition of the national anthem, during which the entire stadium yelled at the top of their lungs like they do at every home game, the Chicago Blackhawks took the ice in Game 6 of their series against the Vancouver Canucks. Even though the Hawks were up 3-2 in the series, there was a strong feeling in the stadium that this was a do-or-die game. In what has been a very rough, bang-up series, the Blackhawks had finally taken the series lead after winning two games in a row, including game 5 in Vancouver. Nevertheless, Blackhawks fans had the feeling that if they could not close out the series at home, going back to Vancouver for a game 7 would only bring heartbreak. Turns out their worries need not to have existed. Patrick Kane led the Blackhawks to a thrilling 7-5 win to clinch the series.

The Chicago Blackhawks continue their March slide down the rankings of the Western Conference. Their once solid, double-digit lead over the fifth place Vancouver Canucks is down to one point (thanks in part to Wednesday's overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets otherwise it would be tied) with Vancouver having the opportunity to claim fourth place all to itself when they face St. Louis Thursday night. Falling out of the playoffs no longer looks unthinkable, the Edmonton Oilers are in eight place with 75 points, only nine points behind the slumping Blackhawks.

After back-to-back post-trade deadline losses against the Boston Bruins and Colorado Avalanche, many fans wonder if trading top-six defenseman James Wisniewski to the Anaheim Ducks for injured checking center Samuel Påhlsson was worth the sacrifice. The Blackhawks are banged up enough; do they really need a player in the locker room who has not played since mid-January?

Martin Havlat put an end to the fear of losing four out of five games on Tuesday night.

Havlat picked the loose puck off an Anaheim missed pass just inside the Hawks’ blue line. He outskated and fought off three Ducks players to score the game-winning goal 1:40 into the overtime period, giving the Hawks a 3-2 victory over visiting Anaheim.
