Akron, Ohio- Despite a furious rally from a double-digit deficit late in the second half, the UIC men's basketball team had its five-game winning streak snapped in a 79-7loss at Akron on Saturday night.

Robert Bush and Robert Kreps, who made his first collegiate start, each scored a game-high 19 points to pace the Flames (8-5). Josh Mayo added 12 points and six assists for UIC. Akron led most of the way, extending its advantage to 11 at the 5:17 mark of the final stanza. But UIC went on a 10-2 run to trim the Zips' lead to three with 2:13 remaining.

After a pair of scoreless possessions by both teams, the Zips went ahead by six with :41 on the clock when Nick Dials hit an off-balance three from the top of the arc as the shot clock wound down.

Mayo responded with a three of his own with just 29 seconds left to get UIC back within three.

Following a Flames foul and a pair of successful Dials free throws to put Akron up by five, Mayo was whistled for an offensive foul while attempting to take the ball up court.

Kreps fueled UIC's late charge with 16 second-half points.

UIC was without Spencer Stewart (broken hand) and Karl White Jr. (sprained right ankle). White is day-to-day, while Stewart will miss 4-6 weeks with a spiral fracture in the fourth metacarpal of his left hand.
