If it is not evident enough the Depaul Blue Demons are going to have another difficult season competing in the Big East Conference.
Even though they were 2- 0 in the Big East before Tuesday's loss. Depaul was clinging to a 6 - 7 record with the ranked # 8 team in the country coming to town. It's obvious this years Blue Demons are fighting an up hill battle. However what's not obvious is the gutsy effort the boys in blue have put forth all year.Even with 8 losses under their belt no one on the team has stopped fighting all year. I was court side at this game and it seemed no matter how hard Depaul played. Georgetown kept making their shots and made it look easy. I guess there is a such thing as being outmatched
Roy "The High riser" Hibbert almost messed around and had a triple double. He torched Depaul for 17 points, 11 assists, and 5 rebounds so effortlessly. Not only was the High riser a beast on the offensive end. His energy and defensive performance was second to none. Hibbert snatched every loose ball like a school yard bully taking lunch money. It didn't look to be a size difference between teams. However, there was a huge speed advantage. The Hoyas seemed to get to every loose ball first. Georgetown scored the first 11 points and was leading by 21 at halftime. Myself & several spectators in the crowd were looking for the exits pretty early. It was tough but I stayed, however the results were the same. Depaul was beat down to there very last compound. They missed their first seven shots and resembled a deer glaring at a vehicles bright lights. Depaul shot a putrid 32.4 % from the field while posting an undisciplined 66.6% from the free throw line.
I met up with coach John Thompson III after the game and asked how will he keep his team motivated for the upcoming rigorous Big East Conference schedule as they approach March madness. "We're just going to keep practicing hard and getting better everyday. We're not looking ahead to March. The only thing we are concerned with is playing Connecticut next."
Now that there are 16 games left a NCAA Tournament Bid seems unrealistic for the Blue Demons. Nursing their 8 losses and licking those fresh wounds caused by Hoya bites. Good luck to the boys in blue, they'll need it.
