As of late, Brett Favre, former Green Bay Packers quarterback, has been in the news with the idea that maybe he isn't ready to call it quits yet. Yep, that's right, for another year Mr. Favre has said that it was his last game, cried his eyes out on national television, leaving us all to believe we would no longer see the "legend of a quarterback back" playing. Well turns out just like Tiger Wood's on a Sunday afternoon, Brett Favre wants to make a comeback, or at least that is the rumor.

Let's assume that Brett Favre does want to come back. It looks as if the Packers are not that interested in bringing the "Green Bay God" back home. Packers GM, Ted Thompson, seems to be in no hurry to speak to Favre. Head Coach Mike McCarthy has been said to have received messages saying that Brett wanted to return. So we have to assume that if Favre wanted to return, the Packers have closed the door on 17 seasons of number 4 running the show? Which then leads to my next point of if he has the itch to play...where is he going to play?

There are a few teams who could use a guy like Brett to come in and play for them right off the bat. Teams like the Houston Texans, Baltimore Ravens, and the Minnesota Vikings. All those teams could have a shot to talk to Favre if the Packers decided to let him go after he asked to be reinstated. There is one team though that is in desperate need for a quarterback and that team is (insert deep breathe here) the Chicago Bears. Ok, ok, relax, it’s going to be alright, it’s just a thought, remember that!

So why not take a chance if you’re Chicago? Really, what could be the worst thing to happen? Brett comes out and shows his age? Would that be that much of a disappointment when you are going into the 2008 season with Rex Grossman most likely your starter? We all know that Kyle Orton should be given the chance but as Lovie Smith would say in that monotone voice of his, “Rex is our Quarterback.” Let’s look at why the Bears should go after Brett Favre. His worst season as a quarterback you can say came in 2005, in my opinion. He threw 29 interceptions but still managed to get off 20 touchdown passes. He finished the season with a quarterback rating of 70.9. When you look at Rex he has a career passing rating of 70.9! Not exactly on his way to the Hall of Fame any time soon. Rex finished 32nd out of 33 quarterbacks who qualified statistically in the NFL last year.

One issue that I think stands out is durability and when it comes to that, Brett Favre is a work horse. Rex is going into his 7th season and here is a number that stands out to me. Rex has only played 32 games. Injuries have plagued him for a few of those seasons and also the idea of trying a guy like Brian Griese in the mix didn't help Rex. Through six seasons Brett Favre had played in 81 games and threw 147 touchdowns!!! I don't know if Rex will ever throw that many by the end of his career.

Plain and simple, the Bears offense will be tough to watch this year. It's hard to say we even have one legitimate threat. Hester can't return every kick for a touchdown, and who knows where Hester will play on the offensive side of the ball. I'd like to think Matt Forte, Chicago Bears rookie running back, will bring a spark to the offense, but with an aging offensive line and a rookie running back it will be tough. The quarterback situation should be about as much fun as watching one of those Sunday night reality shows on VH1, which I admit I do watch.

So there it is Bears fans, the wheels are in motion for the Bears to at least extend a hand to Brett Favre. Maybe it would be like Jordan going to play for the Knicks or dating your best friend’s sister, all things you just don't do, but in the end I think Bears fans could embrace him. You may hold that everlasting grudge against him now, but when he puts on the blue and orange number 4 jersey, you will find a way to embrace him with all your heart. I mean remember, he is Brett Favre!
