Friday night started off with A.J. Pierzynski hitting a home run in the first inning but this would not be a sign for a win to come. The Sox dropped the first game of the 3 game series to the Oakland A’s with a score of Athletics 6, White Sox 4.
The Sox were able to hold the lead all the way through the 8th inning including a home run by Carlos Quentin but they could not close out the game for a win. With Octavio Dotel on the mound, Oakland A Mark Ellis, led off the 8th with a home run tying the game followed by two-run homer by pinch hitter Kurt Suzuki in the 9th for the Oakland win. On Saturday pitcher John Danks led the White Sox to a victory throwing 108 pitches over 6 innings with the Sox winning 2-1 against the A’s. Juan Uribe had a double bringing in Paul Konerko for the Sox’s first run followed by Toby Hall’s single for a run-scored in the second inning. Oakland came close to tying it up in the third but proved unsuccessful with the Sox taking home the win. The bullpen held Oakland hitless over the last three innings with Jenks picking up his 25th save.
Some think Sunday brings in a new week and it looked just like that for the White Sox who crushed Oakland 13-1. Pitcher Javier Vazquez was on fire giving up one run on four A’s hits over eight innings. While Javier was working the defensive side of baseball by protecting the mound, Carlos Quentin and team were supplying the offensive with a major hitting show. Quentin went 2-3 with 4 RBI’s along with his 34th home run in the third inning. Jermaine Dye followed with his fifth home run. Also lighting up the bleachers was Juan Uribe in the second inning with his fifth and Alexei Ramirez with his 12th home run of the season.
MVP
This series it has to go to the whole team. Coming into Sundays game the Sox were a mere 7-28 playing at McAfee Coliseum. The Sox have always had bad luck going into the Oakland area and this weekend just proved how well of a team they are this year by being able to walk out of the Bay area with a series win.
LVP
Nick Swisher. His triumphant return to his old team was a miserable one. Swisher played 2 games of the series, going 0-for-7, and even dropped a ball in center field. Not an impressive showing for one of my recent MVP’s.
