A Look Into New Chicago Fire Defender Lidar Marmol
Written by Alan Radevski / CS Staff Sports Columnist    Tuesday, 03 June 2008 07:39    PDF Print E-mail

On a Tuesday morning after practice, I was very fortunate to get a quick interview with the newest member of the Fire Lidar Marmol. Marmol is from Paraguay and after some contract problems between the Fire and New York he has happily wound up with the Fire.

First and foremost welcome to Chicago, are you happy to be here after the New York Red Bull situation?
Yeah, I am very happy to be here. I’m happy that I have finally signed a contract. The only problem right now is the visa. Its taking a lot longer than I expected but the only thing I can do is just come out here and work until it gets taken care of.

Every morning?
Every morning I feel better. I feel like working harder everyday so that I can get better.

What do you value most?
My family.

Who is your favorite soccer player?
My favorite player right now is Paraguayan soccer player, Salvador Cabanas who has been playing for some time and is currently playing very well.

What part about yourself do you like most?
It’s my job. I love my job, I love doing what I do. I think that if I keep working hard, and play good, I can go very far. Where do you think you’ll be in five years?
I’d like to be very far into my career, and to keep staying good with my family. I also hope to be wearing the national team jersey as well.

What makes you happy ideally?
What makes me happy is having good health, my family being healthy too. Having a good job and also playing makes me very happy.

Since this interview took place, Lidar has received his visa and should be on the Fire bench or first eleven very soon.
