ZAMBRANO PITCHING AN UNPRECEDENTED UNDEFEATED SEASON THUS FAR
Written by Zachary Stovall / 2nd Opinion Editor    Monday, 06 April 2009 00:00    PDF Print E-mail
CHICAGO — Carlos “Me Gusta” Zambrano, known for his fast arm and fire-belly passion, is on the precipice of History in major League Baseball.

The Cubs ace pitcher had a stifling 1.50 ERA, winning an unimaginable 100 percent of every game he has played in 2009. The workhorse has even lightened the load on his teammates’ shoulders, getting a strike out in at least every inning he has pitched (….six).
Critics will counter that the season is young, in fact, infantile, and judgments about players or organizations at this point are both negligible and erroneous, bordering on sheer retardation, but the 2nd Opinion Department likes to dig a little deeper, folks.

Sheer statistics rebuke the invalid claims, and comparison notes between this season and 2008 light the way. In a “meh” 2008 outing, the Big Zambino tossed a so-so 3.91 ERA, losing a whopping six games. In 2009, he has yet to falter.

His zeal is apparently rubbing off on his teammates. The team is also doing much better at baseball as well.

Mike Fontenot Is batting a staggering .750 for the season, blowing Ted Williams .400 mark out of the water with a vengeance, while Alfonso Soriano has hit a home run in every game thus far.

Not to mention, the 2009 Chicago Cubs are undefeated, a sign that fate is certainly behind the once beguiled Loveable Losers of the Second City.
