Evan King PhotoBorn: March 22nd 1992.

Evan King is definitely someone you should know.

Here is a kid that is doing things on the tennis court that, quite frankly, defy belief. A junior at Walter Payton’s College Preparatory in Chicago, he finished the 2006-2007 season the number 1 ranked High School Boys tennis player in the State of Illinois. (www.ihsa.org)

He currently stands #1 in the Illinois Recruiting list, #2 in the Great Lakes Region, and number 7 nationally. He has an overall record of 85-19 and has been written about everywhere including ESPN. Remember folks, he is only a Junior.

Unlike other sports, tennis is not one usually dominated by African Americans. Tennis is a game that is, for all intensive purposes, still largely dominated by all other ethnicities. TennisRecruiting.net currently ranks 1850 high school players. At a rank of 7, this puts Evan in the .0038th percentile in the country. (I had to use a calculator for that one) Quite simply put, odds are he is going to beat the vast majority of opponents he squares off against. I know he would own me on the court.

Keep a look out for future stories about this young man. I will track his progress every so often to see how he’s doing. However, I have a feeling we will be seeing him on TV soon enough.
